It may be the understatement of the year but lets face it; Motion gaming is here to stay. The E3 expo has come and gone, leaving in its wake a slew of games to salivate over for the coming months. It’s clear that most developers are beginning to invest some serious time into the concept. Not just for the casual market but for the Hardcore also. In an obvious effort to increase the console life-cycle, Sony and Microsoft have announced motion control devices to complement their current devices, launching (we hope) this fall. Both of these companies are approaching motion gaming differently, but both are using these new technologies as a way to re-launch their respective consoles. This is in no small way due to the huge success Nintendo and Apple has had with their answer to motion gaming.
In part one of four, we take an in-depth look at the WiiMote; the pioneer of modern motion gaming. Part two deals with Sony’s highly precise but slightly whacky-looking “Ball-on-a-stick”; PlayStation Move. The third part will deal with the newly christened Kinect, Microsoft’s “hands-off” approach to the future. Finally, the fourth part will deal with Apples combined effort (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad) to take a bite out of the motion gaming market.

If Atlus’ Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City for the Nintendo DS isn’t pretty enough for you, check out Forests of Eternity, the preorder exclusive art book spanning the history of the series. It’s much prettier than the game.
I suppose it’s not hard for the concept art for a Nintendo DS role-playing series to trump the visuals of the games themselves. The Nintendo DS can only push out so many polys and pixels, after all, and there are no such restrictions for Forests of Eternity.
The book contains 60-pages’ worth of full-color artwork, giving us a clear idea of what the artists had in mind before the DS came into play.
Forests of Eternity will be available for pickup with your preordered copies of Etrian III at participating retailers while supplies last, so hopefully your local GameStop isn’t staffed by a bunch of video game art fanatics.

Sharp’s parallax barrier utilizes a ‘switching LCD’ that allows both 2D and 3D images without needing any special eyewear.
When this switching LCD is switched off, the TFT-LCD displays 2D images as normal, however when the parallax barrier is switched on, it controls the way light leaves the display, causing the left and right eye to see different patterns of light.
This does however result in one slight issue, for 2d the quality of the screen is as it normally is, 800×240, with the lower screen being 320×240, however when using 3d, the resolution of the upper screen drops to 400×240, this will explain why the upper screen is slightly larger than the lower screen, as the 3d resolution then maintains the same relative pixel per inch as the lower screen, while allowing even crisper 2d for use in interfaces and such.
But given that the 3d mode will be merging two seperate images into one, the result should be a slight anti aliasing effect on 3d objects.

There isn’t much i can really say, if this is the real thing and not just a fanmade mock up, then there you go, you’re looking at three of the new Pokemon to the series.

Get ready to play around with boys one more time! Ubisoft just announced HAWX 2, presumably one of the two new Tom Clancy games mentioned by an Ubisoft producer late last month. HAWX 2, in development at Ubisoft Bucharest, gives players the chance to “become elite aerial soldiers in control of the world’s most technologically advanced aircraft.” This is, oddly enough, the second aerial combat game to be announced today, though the other one is slightly different in tone.
It’s currently scheduled for a fall release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii.

After much labor and toil involving well over 3500 files, the EO3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] sprite collection is complete. We hope these spritesheets prove useful. Feel free to share what you do with them (we’d love to know), but most of all, take a thoughtful look and appreciate all the hard work that went into this wonderful game, import a copy if you haven’t already, and hope for an English release soon!
To download sprites from EO3, click here.
We are now continuing work on our character editor, so stick around for that – the entire Monk class will become available shortly. If you have requests, let us know and we’ll try to prioritize.
For those interested, input and help are needed for the English translation, so check the forums!

So, there’s new Nintendo hardware on the way. It’s a 3D handheld system. How, though, will that 3D work? Maybe a recent obscure DSi release offers some clues.
Since we know absolutely nothing about the new handheld other than the fact it will employ 3D and won’t need glasses, all we’ve left on how it actually works is speculation. So, let’s speculate!

There’s more news today about Etrian Odyssey 3 [世界樹の迷宮Ⅲ 星海の来訪者] goodies. In addition to the pre-order bonus CD, there will be a set of telephone cards (again featuring new character artwork by artist Yuji Himukai), an A3 sized calendar poster, and a set of 10 clear file folders each bearing members of the character classes. This merchandise can be purchased separately or in a marginally cheaper bundle with the game.
But wait! That’s not all! Atlus has announced that it will give out a limited edition book – one containing the game’s conceptual images and information – to the first 500 people who submit a certain form after the game’s release. There’s not much else to be said for this book for the moment, as director Komori informs us it’s not even been assembled or printed yet.
